With 3 days left of the Say Thanks Austin 2011 campaign, it is clear that we are not anywhere near our goal of 30,000 votes.
HOWEVER, that hardly means it’s time to throw in the towel. Often, the success of non-profit campaigns can be compared to a negative parabola — strong at the beginning and end with a lag in the middle (see Fig. 1 at right).
I have compiled the daily vote totals for each Legend over the course of the campaign so far and charted them below. I know if you’re like myself or John Bosch, Jr, it’s easier to grasp concepts and see the big picture if you have visual aids.
Keep in mind this chart is only representative up to 9:45 a.m. today, February 1, 2012. After a quick surveillance of the data, it can be safely assumed that:
- Weekends take a definite toll on regular voting patterns;
- There is a set of around 300 people who comprise about 70% of the votes every day;
- Effects of outreach take significant time to see results.
So let’s end this campaign strong and keep on voting until the very end — at midnight on Friday, February 3, 2012.
